3M Rumor Mill - New Products Being Released Soon

Ryan's actually being nice. I mirror his efforts into trying to justify this product as an improvement to Extra Cut., but their is no hope. I'm frightened to see how body shops will take in this product as the improved version of Extra Cut and be left :confused::grrr:har: :down:cry::shocked:help::hairpull

I am trying to be nice about it:grinno: But you should have seen how far I flung that bottle across the parking lot.

Turtle wax made a better compound back in 1980. The sad part is that I am not even kidding.:grinno:

If bodyshops like this then they are all sick in the head and clueless. I could not even imagine anyone liking this compound.

I hope they can find the issue and try to correct it.

So it is now "Ultrafine"? Is this everywhere? Looks like i am going to have to buy mine from the UK.

I just got my 1st quart of ultrafina like 3 days ago. I LOVE IT! It is amazing!

It is still the same but with a new name.

I like the 06062. Works well by PC with a 4 inch pad.

06060 and 06062 are very similar. The 06060 is the "extra cut" and tends to leave a bit more haze. Both have done a good job at cleaning up scratches, swirls, and water spots for me, and I use a PC.

I think they are the same basic product but EC has a higher percentage of abrasives.

3m reps were in my shop this morning demonstrating the new line of products. First off, the new 6in. Trizact 1500 sandpaper is awesome. Did not load up at all and was able to sand a entire hood without any "curleys" with plenty of life left in the disc. Concerning the new compound, I was using it in replacment to 05974 Perfect it II compund. Im my expirience it cut through the 1500 sand marks very quickly and clean up was a whole lot easier. It does not surpass the extra cut but it is a great alternative to the 05974 compound

Thanks for the report on the Trizact 1500. Did you follow w/ trizact 3000 after or go straight to compound. Is the T1500 used wet or dry? Did you feel the T1500 knocked any of the orange peel down? Do you by any chance have a 3M part # for the T1500?

TIA!

I went to the 3000 after. You have to use it wet from what I was told. The sand marks were so fine from the 1500 I could have went straight to compounding with no issues but for demo purposes we went to the 3000. I have no part numbers sorry, but i feel that the orange peel was greatly reduced.

Is this the new stuff?

trizact 1500 02069

Sorry to bring this one back to the top.

But does anybody have any input on the 02069 P1500 trizact?

I called 3M today and they told me the 02069 should be used dry and is not a foamed pad. He also told me its their latest/greatest.

I wish 3M would make a trizact 1500 or 2000 foamed that is made to use wet.

I have used the 2k mirka in the past, good product, but then I would have to switch backing plates when I go to the 3m trizact 3k.

I couldn’t tell you where I saw it, but I could swear I’ve seen an intermediate pad with loop on both sides that lets you use Trizact on a standard backing plate.

PC.

That would be nice. Update please if you ever run accross it again.

TIA!

I'm confused here....why would you have to switch backing plates? Is the 3M backwards or something?

Yes our good friends at 3M made all of their line reverse from mirka, ect. So that way you have to buy 3Ms BP and interface pad. :grrr

That's pretty sad.

I already own the 6" soft interface pad from 3M though. Guess I've been using it "upside down" with my Mirka Abrasives. :P

3M's new 1500 Trizact is amazing. I use it wet and it works great. All the tiny pigtails that were created by the old 1500 are totally eliminated and allows for easier and safer sanding/buffing when followed by 3000 Trizact.

Here's some comparisons I did on a C5 Corvette 1/4 panel:

Original 1500 - Wet (notice the pigtail sanding marks):

Of those of you reporting on the 3m paper, who has used the stuff Meg's recommends? Mirka I believe?

Thoughts on the comparison?

Thanks David! I will get some of the 1500 trizact.

I will get some on order.

I am working on a new 08 AO Z06 that has deep etching on the roof and hood.

2k mirka does not get it done on this hard clear and this severe. So I had to go 1500 megs by hand, 2k mirka air sander, 3k trizact air sander. I still had some deep sanding marks from the 1500 that the 2k mirka did not get out. A few heavy compounding passes and all is well.

I got these about 90% out. But this pic is after the 2k mirka air sanded:

I prefer the 3M over the mirka. The mirka is not bad, I just like the trizact better.
