2009 Civic EX-L nabbed before the dealer prep

Hey guys. This is my first C&B. I just bought this Civic for my wife. She worked more than fulltime while I was in pharmacy school and this car was her big thank you present. We picked it up at the lot with the plastic still on it. I removed the plastic at the dealer, then she drove it home and wasn't allowed to drive it until I finished this.

I did no correction as I have no DA. There were very very very minor cobwebs on the panels that were not covered by plastic. The paint under the plastic is pristine.

Process:

Spray down with cheap foam gun and rinse to get top layer of particulates off.

Wash with Lowes GS with 2 bucket method.

Blow dry all crevices

Blot dry with Der Wunder WW

Clay with Meg's clay kit including windshield

Checked paint with plastic bag

Wash clay residue with ONR

KAIO

KSG

303 on all exterior plastic

Armor All Extreme shine tire gel

IG used on all windows

Windshield got a layer of Meg's Gold Class liquid

Foamed. It's a $10 gun I found at Lowes. Works fine.

Rail dust. I plan on doing a decontamination. I just need to decide between ABC or FK

We are giving our old car to some friends so my car has to sit on the street until they pick up the Cavalier. it would get towed since it doesn't have tags.

All in all, I think I like working on black paint better. I need to get some spotlights so I can tell if I got all the wax residue off the white paint. Its about impossible to tell in the garage and the sun had started to go down by the time I got done. Thanks for all the good advice on the forums!

it looks like they redesigned the front bumper, wheels, and grille as far as i could see. congrats on the new ride, it looks great! :2thumbs:

p.s. how's the wife like it so far?

Yeah, front bumper, wheels, and grille. They also added Vehicle Stability Assist to the EX-L trim levels.

My wife absolutely loves the car. She never understood claying before this. Before she was picked up for work this morning, I had her to the plastic bag test on unclayed paint. Then when I picked her up in the car I had her do it again on clean paint and she was like, "oohhhhhhhhhh, now I get it."

Yeah nothing clicks to someone about the benefits of clay like a feel test. The look on their face is always priceless.

Nice car :D Number 4 car maker in the USA FTW! lol :D The new accord is still growing on me but the civic rocks!

maybe now since she understands the detailing procedures, she won't mind if you buy a whole lot of detailing products... :D

*argument*

her: "(looks at credit card statement) why are you spending so much money on detailing products?"

him: "honey, i just want to make sure your car looks good in the long run, just like the day we bought it". "not to mention honey, if we keep it in good shape and want to sell it, the civic holds it's resale value very well". *note: calling her honey a few times and being nice*

her: *pauses for a minute and then gives in* "okay"...

him: deep down inside "yes!"

:D

I always seem to have slight removal issues with KSG. I've found that a little spritz of ONR takes the fog right off. I know it doesn't remove the KSG because my car still beads like crazy 3 months after 2 layers. I need to get some spotlights as it is hard to spot the haze on a white car. It is cake to spot on my black 3.

I'm already trying to talk her into letting me get a DA as a "household expense" instead of using my allowance.

I love the civic. The V6 Accord is my favorite in the lineup though. They said at the dealership that they are adding HIDs standard on the V6. That is my one beef with Honda. No HIDs.

Try using SG with the Wipe-on/Wipe-off method. Much easier, and works great!

I'll give that a try. Thanks for the tip. The bottle says to let it dry so I did.

Usually, when you have a hard time removing SG haze, you put WAAAAY too much on the pad and onto the car. You should barely be able to see the application on the car, similar to applying Zaino. If you ever have haze though, a quick spritz of Sonus Acrylic Spritz works nicely, and is a good wipe-down between AIO and SG layers.

tell me more about your $10 foam gun from Lowes! Car looks great btw!

I found it in the hose/nozzle section of Lowes. I is your typical selectable garden hose attachment, but it has a reservoir for soap. It gets it sudsy, but not foamy. I find it is enough for a pre wash suds and rinse to get the top layer off.

Great job on your new car. I'm glad it worked out for you. Now make sure to wash it right and keep it LSP'd so it can stay looking this way.
