1Z Glanz Wax: 2 Months Old....Options ??

I applied some 1 Z Glanz to my cousins car 2 months ago. It's a 1993 Subuaru Legacy (looks like a mini-station wagon), hadn't been waxed/detailed in years. We washed, clayed, SSR'd, and then did the 1-step 1 Z Glanz wax, wasn't going to apply multiple layers of EX-P or Klasse with extra costs and time.

Well, we want to give it the final winter detailing in the next few weeks. I don't think the 1Z will last through the NJ winter; it's 2 months already, can't see it making it through 6 months total.

I know if I re-apply 1 Z it takes off the earlier coat. But can I get away with directly applying coats of EX-P to the 1Z finish? Or do you I need to strip it first with Poorboys PP? I'm assuming he'll stay over and allow us to apply 2 coats of whatever we use over 24 hours or so (I think Steve/Poorboy said 24 hours between EX-P layers, right?)

I already clayed last time, not gonna do it this time. We really just want to get 1 or 2 coats of something on the car while doing all the little extras -- windows, rims -- we didn't have time for last time.

Any suggestions, thanks. This is an older car that is not garaged, so I'm not looking to use the most time- and product-consuming steps.

In my opinion, you could put another coat of 1z Glanz Wax on and be all set.

I'm not too sure about putting Ex-P on top of it. If no one else responds, you could always try out a test spot and see what happens.

If I put another coat of 1 Z Glanz on, then it would take off the earlier one -- so I only gain 2 months of "newness." Not bad but what I'd really like is to get 2 coats of something -- EX-P, probably -- and need to either do it directly to the 1 Z Glanz wax or to use PB PP first and then apply EX-P.

I'm leaning to using PB PP first since Poorboy has said it provides a good base to apply the EX-P.

I'm pretty sure the Glanz Wax has some cleaners in it, so it will remove some of the previous layer, but you will get the full protection of Glanz from that point on. You can top Glanz with a Carnauba though.

Hmm, I would think you might run into a bonding issue here. Maybe, maybe not. I usually top 1Z Glanx with carnauba and get a very long life out of it, actually the same as when I use sealants under carnauba like EX-P, SG, etc.

I think you're right, Pat, Poorboy said you need to use PB PP for a bonding surface. If I just put EX-P on the Glanz Wax it's going on something it wasn't meant to bond to.

Exactly. I am a fan of both GW and EX-P, and own and use both. I usually stick to light colored cars for EX-P and darker cars for GW even though GW looks good on everything, JMO.

I like GW and use it almost exclusively. I will usually reapply GW every two months unless I am doing a full detail.

If you want extended durability you may want to consider Klasse SG. It will last at least four months and you can layer the sealant.

Thanks Andriver....I have Klasse just didn't want to use it on such a crappy car ! :) I like to save the Klasse for MY car.

I might use some EX-P even though I hate to use that too. He wants 2 layers so it has to be something layerable.
