I`m a carnuba man but I`m thinking of biting the bullet

and throwing on a primary coat of Z1/Z2 as a UV

barrier. I don`t think my carnuba collection has any UV pro.

    [p21s, blitz, & collinite]

I think my dark green volvo paint is starting to slightly fade.

The car id outside all the time. Saw for the first time today

that the volvo manual recommends polymers.

    You learn something new...

I will carnuba over the Z2 for that warm look.

Any pros or cons? Is every 6 months good for the Z2

as a primary layer? Is the Zaino going to slow the fading anymore

    than waxing[carnuba] like crazy?

If you want the UV protection of a polymer and still apply carnauba, try the Klasse kit for $40, or cheaper if there is a group buy going on. Zaino advises not to apply any carnauba over the Zaino.

If you wax like crazy, it will provide some UV protection and slow the fading of the paint down, but for maximum protection use a polymer sealant. This will slow down the fading of your cars paint.

This is how I use Klasse on a car I have not Klass`d yet.

Wash the car. Clay and polish the car to remove swirl marks, scratches, and get the paint ready for Klasse.

Klasse AIO, then put on two coats of Klasse SG with an hour for it to dry. I then top with carnauba.

To follow this up, I would wash weekly or bi-weekly and QD, put on a coat of carnaub every third wash or whenever I want that carnauba shine.

Before winter Klasse the car and not put a carnauba topper because carnauba will just not last through the winter. Once spring comes around do the major detail again, solving all the problems caused by the winter (putting the car through the touchless 3 or 4 times to get off all the salt and sand) like swirl marks and light scratches.

    Hope this helps,

    Jason

Zaino was designed to be a sealant with excellent UV-Blocking capabilities. That was one of the main design criteria.

You can wax over zaino but you cannot put more Zaino on without Dawn washing.

You`d have to do more prep with Zaino than you would with Klasse, it depends on what your goals and willingness to expend effort is, as well as your preference in appearance.

Want to give Zaino a shot first. Will try Klasse later.

Is it a calamity to carnuba over Zaino?

Will it haze or anything like that?

Why does Sal advise against it?

I know some Autopians have topped Zaino with

carnuba. Has it worked out well in the long run?

Don`t want to layer Zaino and carnuba and Zaino.

Just want to use Zaino as a base UV layer. I would

strip down the whole layer cake every 4-6 months and rebuild.

Yup. I remember Metallic Mikes thread but I was

looking for someone with a years worth of

experience on topping Zaino with carnuba

if I can find such a person.

I`m going to check Edmund`s now since they have

Zaino post going on for years.

If someone would come up with a UV great

carnuba my problem would be solved.

Maybe I`ll start using Coppertone UV40 as a topper. LOL

Really, Klasse is great with a carnauba topper!!! These guys know what they`re talking about! Zaino simply gives a different look and does not be topped with carnauba. With Klasse, you can top with carnauba, get the wet look you want, and add months of protection from UV and more!

Klasse will provide UV protection as well. I use it along with the P21S paste wax, and it looks *outstanding*! Prior to the P21S coat, the look just isn`t right (to a long time carnuba man) - but once you throw some P21S on it, it looks great, shines like crazy, and you have the protection of the Klasse underneath.

Keep in mind - as mentioned for Zaino above - you can`t layer any more Klasse unless you`ve stripped the carnuba from it. To me, this doesn`t present an issue - since the Klasse is long lasting, I don`t see why you`d want to throw on any more in less than 4-6 months.

are additives to a formulation. Most manufacturers skimp on this because the additives are expensive. Zaino will have the latest in UV protection and help prevent your car from fading. I saw this first hand on my Z-28. The front hood piece is composite and the hood is fiberglass. They are known for uneven fading but zaino helped this a lot and after 3 years the paint was still the same color on all the panels. I can`t speak for KLASSE because I don`t know much about any UV inhibitors that are added, and with a lack of a contact I don`t see an "official" answer coming any time soon.

As for applying carnuba over Zaino, well, you CAN do it, but it defeats the purpose of the whole system of (1) being optically perfect and showing the true color of the paint, and (2) being a non abrasive formula that can be layered to improve shine and durability. I would try a few coats of zaino.....who knows, you might like it enough to skip the carnuba topper...........

It is definately interesting. For at least 50-60 years carnauba type waxes had been used exclusively and were considered to be the only way to protect the paint finish. People have become so accustomed to this muted look that Carnauba waxes give that they now feel it is unnatural to have a nearly optically perfect finish that shows the TRUE color of the paint the way it was intended to be. So much for progress

    Anyone Heard from Luster?

Just realized, I haven`t heard anything or seen anything from Luster in quite some time.

    Anyone know of his whereabouts?

Thanks for looking, I was just hoping everything was okay.

I know it`s been a rough month or so here in KC, so I`m sure his detailing is kind of slow. Heck, I can`t even get my cars clean, let alone detailed.
