"Clay baring was a waste of my time"

I think the Mother's Showtime was drying up quickly due to the salt content of his tears as they were hitting the finish. Clearly a great volume of said tears were leaving his melon, so I have to assume that at least a small percentage reached the paint.

Claybars need to come with a brochure ("So you've decided to clay...")--it must be the most misunderstood/underappreciated detailing supply. They could also offer a video: "Hi, I'm Troy McClure. You may remember me from other detailing informational videos such as 'Alice Cleans the Looking Glass' and 'Heather Has Two Mommies and Their Cars are Oxidized.'

Sound to me he is way into instant gratification and is unwilling to do a proper job.

(Bet his love life is instant gratification too)

Best reply EVER!

I'm still laughing:D

thinksnow...VERY funny.....only a true Simpsonite (just made that up) would get that.

About clay...it is a very misunderstood product. Frankly, it works too well for what it is.

Last Fall, a car show friend of mine asked me about polishes and the like. He wound up trying what I use and loves it. Last Saturday, we were at a show and he was complaining about the gritty feel his paint had. I told him about clay. The next day, I went to a show were he was to say "Hi", and took my clay with me. We walked over to the Cobra (not in the show) and I got out a piece of clay and showed it to him. He as not willing to try it. So, I got my emergency towell and QD and did a small area on the Cobra. He was amazed that it did not scratch and at how smooth the paint was. He bought some on the way home.

I guess the point of that long story was that clay is one of those products that are too good to be true and it must be demonstrated.

Got my first clay on the way, along with Klasse AIO - I guess I get to see what clay does (2 week old Pickup)

I didn't appreciate the clay (smooth paint) until I tried it on some bird droppings that I couldn't wash for a week (too much rain). The clay took the residue right off. I am a true believer. :up

I think a lot of people that tried clay didn't need it and that is Y there so many like clay sux deals. And then there are those people that have paint that is beyond clay. All I know the damn clay picks up a whole lot of crap that you can't see or normally wash off.

It should be pointed out to him that it isn't necessary to remove the residue from claying. The wax process does that quite well. He could have also clayed with a constant stream of water (what I do) which would have minimized the residue.

I tried ur advice, kinda, instead of the soapy water I used a spray bottle with mostly water and touch of soap. The clay bar picked up a alot more things second time around. Happy with the results from it.

You also have to appreciate that the good folks over on HAN don't really know an awful lot about detailing. I know we have a couple Autopians that post over there, but its not enough. Most of them don't know the difference between car wax and shoe polish. I tried to help out around there back in the day, but nobody seemed to care at it was just a waste of time. The guys who were interested came over to Autopia. I definitely wouldn't trust any of their advice in the detailing arena. Trust the good folks at Autopia instead. :bigups

I also notice in those type of sites they only promote Zanio, everything else is crap to them lol, it quite funny

tell em to see & feel the difference when clay baring a brand new car :). My claymagic bar was picking tons of crap. My car is up to Autopian standards, due mostly to clay :D.

:) Its nice to be able to take the gloves off once in awhile. I like not being a mod for that very reason. Its not like it will be noticed on HAN anyway. They flame each other over there like it is part of their religion to do so. They certainly aren't going to care about my post. I just can't stand short cut takers. Do the job right or don't do it at all. Its a good moto.

I only post here to try to help them out. Sometimes I feel like...:wall :wall :wall :wall the BMW e46fanatics.com forum seems to care more about their paint then many honda/acura owners. And the SRT-4 people really seem to know what's going on in detailing. :nixweiss

Edit: And you're right about the flaming. They have a very high immature content and a low "real knowledge" content. It scares me. :o
