Putting together a travel kit

Friends,

As a long time "lurker", I have gathered a lot of valuable advice from many of the insightful members here at Autopia. Using the search feature, I have had all of my questions answered. That is, until now. I am getting ready to start taking some major road trips, and want to piece together a detailing travel kit. You know, easy to use products that can be quickly used to "restore" my vehicle after long hours on the road. A good QD I know will come in handy, but what other items should I consider? Any advice from the experienced road warriors would be greatly appreciated!

By the way, my Sport Trac just got done with it's 3rd coat of KSG and is awaiting the S100 topper.

I keep a spray bottle with water in it to loosen any dirt on the surface and dry it with a towel. If I feel super clean I follow with a QD and MF. A glass cleaner and seperate MF (kept in plastic bags) are also in my trunk. Hmmm, a CCD would come in handy too.

it's been rain..sun..rain..sun for the past week and for all of this week here, so I've put my travel pack to use lately. If you go off-roading you might want to bring a pressure hose and a generator :D.

A couple gallons of water and Protect All's Quick and Easy Wash.

QD

Towels

How many hours are we talking about?

I was planning on getting a travel kit together myself. I would agree that all you really need is QEW, some QD, and some good towels. I'll probably also bring along some tire/trim dressing and some glass cleaner. My $.02

Having used Poorboy's Spray & Wipe this weekend for the first time (cleaning the inside door jambs and a couple of birdbombs), I'm adding it to my travel kit too. Will be easier (I think) than running the car thru a car wash and having to dry it before water spots form.

Clearkote has a very nice little travel kit...small bottles of Quick Shine, VM wax and rubber/ vinyl treatment. Very cool..fits in a small bag or box..could fit in your glove box..add a couple of MF's and you're all set.

I use a Canvas "Tool Bag" similar to this one:

It is tall enough to store bottles of polish, wax, QD, tire dressing and 303 and has numerous interior and exterior pockets for detailing brushes, Q-tips, etc. Also a spacious interior for plenty of MF's, Absorber, etc.

About the only thing that won't fit is a Cal Duster!

It all zips into a very neat bag that looks nice in your trunk.

I bought mine at Westlakes Ace Hardware for $24.95. (mine is not exactly like the one pictured........mine has more pockets)...

Mine contains the following stuff:

Z1

Z2

Z5

Z6

Leather in a Bottle

Meg's Scratch Remover

6 detailing brushes

6 MF towels

Absorber & container

Fieldcrest towel (cut in 4 parts)

Tire dressing

Rain-X

Q-tips

303

terry towels for engine bay

Simple Green

Total weight is about 10 lbs............

I keep my "D-Bag" in the trunk all the time, except for the dead of winter, when the liquids in the bag may freeze.

Thanks for the replies!! My main road trip will be a 10hr haul up to Norfolk, VA for a wedding, followed by a week at the Outer Banks, NC. You have given me some good ideas. I really hate using any type of "automatic" carwash, but I'm sure I'll be able to find one of those self serve spray kind. Just a little concerned about the saltwater(in the air) and sand. Thanks again for the tips!
