Meguiars

Was at a car event this weekend where Meguiars representatives were in attendance. I asked what the difference was between Final Inspection and Quik Detailer. I was told that Quick Detailer contained some ingredeients that were not "safe" meaning that they presented problems for body shops when it came to paint work. Maybe I misunderstood the response as I have a bottle of the Quik Detailer but have never seen anything on the bottle indicating it might be a problem in some instances. I do see in the Meguiar's brochures....one the retail line and the other the professional line... that the Quik Detailer does mention it as not totally safe in some instances but the product description on the retail line says nothing about this in the description of the same item.

I'm confused for sure.

I'm thinking the issue is silicone, which can be a problem when repainting. From what I understand, painters don't like to have silicone products in the shop to avoid accidents.

It's a non-issue for everyone else.

The operative term here isn't that certain products aren't "safe", it's that they're not "body shop safe". Silicones will cause fisheyes in paint, so it is advised not to use these products in body shops where they could come in direct contact, or aerosols could float around to about-to-be-painted surfaces.

I've always just went with Final Inspection #34 because I can get it in gallon sizes at a local paint and body shop. It's a permanent staple in my arsenal.

Silicone's are not a problem for body shops nowdays. They've got products to remove all that

The old school #66 which is a cream formula probably contains silicone.

The current liquid version which I don't much care for, I'd guess is free of silicone.

#34 is ok but nothing sensational.

That's why I formulated my own QD called creme afterwash

I used meguairs once and binned the bottle s I thought it was highly over rated and couldnt understand what the fus was about. Silicone is an issue with bodyshop's as I have found out first hand and avoid products that contain it like the plague!

Meguiars is full of it and so is MER and Autoglym. Now I use the proffesional autoglym and P21s. This gives superb results all the time!!

Meg's retail line products have lots of mineral oil I know that much

Autoglym retail line may have silicone but the bodyshop and pro range that some of which I use do not. Quality stuff there

they had the car 7 times to correct the paint and it was a main dealer! Ended up I got a new car out of it!

The bodyshop stuff is 10 times better and easier to use!
