'04 TL Ultima'd and just plain WET! 56k you'd better think about it!

I was contacted last week by a fellow member that just doesn't have the time to spend with his car as he did before. He has a plethora of products on hand (true sign that he's been hanging around here a while) to take care of the car in the in between time though. He may or may not chime in here and I will respect his privacy if he doesn't.

The subject was an '04 Acura TL in a medium gray color (Polished Metal Metallic?) that was showing some toweling marks and a few random deep scratches as well. It also had a few random "rub" marks that took away from the overall finish of the car.

The bad: I had to take it easy on the hood and fenders as the car is showing signs of paint failure(checking) in those areas so it's not perfect.

The paint contaminates were removed using an elastrofoam block during the ONR wash. While this did cause minor marring the car was going to be polished and the wash and "claying" take just a few minutes. It's a no brainer.

All painted surfaces were polished using Menzerna 106ff and a green Lake Country CCS pad on my new Metabo while all painted surfaces and lighting were cleaned/prepped with Ultima PPP and sealed with Ultima PGP.

The seats, dash and door panels were cleaned using Ultima Interior Shampoo Gel to remove the 30 weight that had been applied during a recent interior detail. The Shampoo Gel gently but effectively cleaned away all of the gunk and paved the way for all of the surfaces to be protected using Ultima Interior Guard Plus. IGP left the interior surfaces feeling silky and applied evenly without any fuss.

Interior: Shots taken with flash on.

PGP Drying:

The owner was very hospitable to me and even insisted on buying me lunch on his dime. A true pleasure to work for!

Thanks for looking!

Thanks guys.

Morarch, I'm wondering if the areas had been improperly repaired at some point without the owners knowledge. He says that the car had the white shipping paper on it when he bought it. The paint is cracking on the leading edge of the hood and fenders and goes further up the hood than fenders which is an odd place for it to start.

What's up SpoiledMan. That was my car that was beautifully restored. You did a great job . I enjoyed picking your brain about many different subject matters regarding car care. You are true professional. Thanks for your hard work.

I too was mystified when you showed me the early signs of paint failure on a 2004 vehicle bought brand spanking new. The thought of a dealer possibly damaging my car and respraying it just sickens me. I would hope to believe that it's due to a bad factory paint job but that seems really odd on such a new car.

I am contemplating either getting it repainted or just selling it in the next year and getting the latest model. We haven't decided yet.

Again, thanks for your great work. Enjoy your "new" printer.

wow great job on the tl!! I see you're still rocking the gsr.. nice! How do you like the metabo? DId you use a rotary before? I was thinking about upgrading from my makita to a metabo. Also, that's weird that the paint is failing, but shouldnt that be covered by acura? Paint warranties are usually pretty extensive
