This red beauty was in great shape (as all Ferrari's should be). The best part of this job is meeting new people and today I had the pleasure of meeting one of the nicer people I have come across at this job.
As I stated, the car was in great shape, but did have some marring. I felt that I could take the car to a higher level. The Ferrari did have moderate swirling, but considering that this classic is 21 years old, I wouldn't say it was bad at all. I spoke to the owner and told him that if we could remove some of the swirls and clean up the surface we could make the paint cleaner and wetter. I had my work cut out as this car is already meticulously cared for with several coats of Zaino, several times a year. Because the paint is older, I decided that caution was the better part of valor and was very gentle in my selection of polishes and pads. In the end the paint looked much deeper and crystal clear and we got about 85-90 percent of the defects out.
Process.
Wash with Megs' Hyperwash
Clay with Megs'
Blue Clay using LastTouch 1:1
1-2 passes of
50/50 Meg's 83/IP mix @ 1500 rpm on a 8006 pad
1 pass of FPII @ 1000 on 8006 pad
1 pass of Zaino Z-PC Fusion @ 1000 on 7006 pad
2 coats of Zaino Z5pro (Z'fxed), Z6 between coats
1 coat of Zaino Z2 pro
Final wipe of Zaino Z8 Grand Finale
Zaino Z-AIO on flat back lower body panels, plastic, windows, and rims
Zaino Z16 on the tires
Meg's Hyperdressing on wheelwells.
Here is the car early in the morning when I arrived. As you can see it was already in good shape, but not quite red (slightly pinkish) despite wearing several coats of Zaino. The Italians painted this car Rosso Corsa, and it was my job make them smile.
After washing I clayed with Meg's Blue Detailers Clay Pro. The car was very clean and only the slightest contamination was present.
There was some moderate swirling (worse then the camera picked up)...
I did a quick tape job
I set up my halogens and found micro marring and swirls over the entire surface. My camera had a difficult time picking up the marks, but if you look at the left light you can see the hazing. The right light is after 2 passes of my 50/50 mix of Meg's DAC/P with
Menzerna IP.
Here is the same section in the sun (if you look you can see the outline of the tape and the B pillar which still has swirling)
Here is a working shot as I made my way around the bumper (the passenger side before polishing)
The driver side after polishing
After made my back around the car with FP II, I took this photo in the halogens. The paint is noticably wetter looking, clear, and RED.
So I pulled it out in the sun light to check my work. Again notice how nice and red the paint is compared to the first picture.
At this point I took a brief break. Then I made one pass with Z-PC. Then I applied Z'fxed Z5pro for two coats and topped with Z2pro. I used a Z6 wipedown between coats and did a final wipe with Z8 Grand Finale. The owner and I went over the car then I snapped a few photos in the garage before we pulled it outside for the final review.
