Does anyone have a V3 Razor cell phone?? I'm considering switching phones (and carriers) and I'm just wondering how good these phones are....

I have two , a black one a silver one. I love the phone thus why I have two. It's very comfortable to use and very thin so it's easy to have on me at all time. The only problem I have had with this phone is the GSM netork it runs on , there is no analog so in remote area's there's no signal but those places are far and few. The phones features are also very nice , I love the blue tooth wireless headset alows me to leave the phone in my console while I'm in my truck.

I have had a silver one ever since they first came out and for the most part, I like it but it could be better. I use mine constantly (I average over 6000 minutes a month and I only use this phone for work -- I have a separate phone for personal use) and I find that over time, the phone slows down i.e. navigating through the menus, etc becomes slower and slower -- almost like a windows PC. If I don't power the phone off and on again after about a week, the phone eventually completely locks up (sometimes in the middle of a call) at which point, it forces me to "reboot" the phone whether I wanted to or not.

I had a V600 before the V3, and it had the same problem, so I figure it is just a bug/memory leak in the motorola software. I also carry a Blackberry 7100g at all times, so in a pinch, I can use that as a phone also if the V3 locks up in the middle of an important call.

I have recently switched to a black RAZR from a T720. I love the phone so far, also partly because of my Bluetooth earpiece.

The only complaint I have to date is that I would like to see a stiffer spring on the hinge. The one they use is adequate....but only barely so. It is just weak enough that I thought perhaps I had gotten a faulty unit. However, upon checking the inventory at the shop, I found that all of their black RAZRs were precisely the same.

I would like to see a more positive open or close action.....such as theat on the T720 I moved up from.

toyemp , I had a similar problem with my first V3 , I found out it was a software problem. If you're on cingular they reccomend turning the phone off every other day so it can reboot and update it's software. I never turned my phone off before now since I started doing this I haven't had the problem. Also check to see if you have a 64bit sim card if not upgrade it , it speeds up the software itself and the updates.

My father has one and really likes it... like other said the bluetooth is very nice.... even better when your car has bluetooth. Caller ID on the dash and the phone will brodcast over the cars sound system.

You turn your phone off every other day? Or was this only for a short period of time? Turning the phone off once a week is bad enough. Seems like a pain to have to turn it off every other day. How can you tell if you have a 64bit SIM?

I am on Cingular but all my SIMs are still AT&T branded. I have 3 SIMs in front of me right now (V3, Blackberry, EDGE card) and none of them have any markings other than a serial # on them.

Can anyone tell me how the black RAZR holds up appearance wise compared to the silver. My cell contract expires soon and I'm going to get a RAZR. I'm just a bit concerned with black. I love black but like a black car, does this phone show every fingerprint and scratch?

yeah I should have been more clear , I only have turn it off for a few minutes not very long and I usally just do it at night when I'm charging it. As for the SIM card , being that you still have AT&T ones that is a problem , your phones will work but it will cause problems if they are not Cingular ones. Cingular is only using 64 bit sim cards now , so all you have to do is go in to a cingualr store and tell them you would like to get new sims for your phones and they'll set you up with new ones free of charge. When you get a new one for the Blackberry make sure they check which one is right for that unit , it'll have a certain code on it or start with a certain letter. If not you'll have isssues with it , I did with my Treo 650 just because the sim was coded differerent.

yes my black one does show fingerprints pretty easy but they wipe off easy too. As for the durability of the finish it's top notch powder coating , no scratching at all. When I bought the black one I took my key to the display unit and I was unable to scratch it, left alittle rub mark but no scratching. I am currently using the black one daily and it looks great even with the abuse I give it.

I have the black one and love it. I bought a spare battery or charger (or some accessory) from some website and they sent me a small microfiber towel about the size of 1/2 a washcloth. I wrap my phone in it while the phone is in my pocket and I use it to wipe off the fingerprints and cheekprints after I talk on it. [Just as anal with the phone as I am with my car!]

Works great! The texture of the towel feels almost like a soft chamois.

I have a black one, all the features everyone else has mentioned are pluses, also I seem to find the battery to last very long compared to other phones. As for the broadcast thing, how does this work?

I've had my silver razr for a while now, long enough to have it sail across the car, fall on floors, hit furniture... several times and still no scratches. I still like it a lot in spite of how much less expensive they are now - mine was 4x the current price. I've noticed far fewer calls being dropped and it even works in elevators that caused my other phones to fail. I travel and have international roaming, and I've never experienced a failure to connect to any network anywhere I've been. quad band works nicely, but then so does my wireless quad band modem.

the black ones used to be available only in europe, so it's cool they're here now. kinda wish I had one, but I wasn't about to wait. keep in mind that they both play video, but only the black ones record video.

coolest thing about this phone for me is the size - a feature I'd been looking for since my first cellular phone - and this one pretty much stays upright in your pocket. it's wide enough that it doesn't get lost in your pocket, no antenna to get caught, it's thin and light and won't make your jackets look funny when it's in your breast pocket. mmode and net access to send photos is kind of cool even though I pretty use mobile phones to talk on the phone.

one other thing, if you're looking to motorola for a bluetooth headset, get the 850.

ps: that att / cingular thing has been playing havoc on folks in my office.

I DON"T recommend the V3 Razr. In the first two weeks of owning the phone, I had 5 of them die on me :shocked Up until now, I've always used Nokia's and never had a problem with them, but I liked the look of the Razr so I decided to give it a try and it's my biggest regret. For a phone that is suppose to be Motorola's "IT" phone, they sure skipped the quality stage during development. I still think the phone looks great but I wouldn't risk the quality issues unless you want a nice looking paperweight.

WOW I'm suprised you had such problems with the phone , I did notice that your in Canada I did hear a rumor about compatibility issues on Rogers service. When you say die what do you mean?

Yep I'm using Rogers and the phone worked great with the service when it actually worked. I experienced a couple different "deaths". Two were DOA right out of the box, wouldn't turn on at all and even a new charged battery wouldn't do anything. Another one wouldn't charge but when a new battery was put in, all the menus screwed up and the phone froze and then wouldn't turn back on. Finally, the other two experienced the screwed up menus and eventually just died, eventhough the battery was charged and worked on another phone.

Can't comment on the phone, but if you currently do not have GSM service on your phone, make sure you look at coverage maps. When I switched to a new plan/phone (moto V551) the only option was GSM service. Basically it sucks coverage wise for where I need to use the phone, at our house we are lucky to hit 3 bars (usually 1-2, so drop outs now and then) and when we travel to the inlaws (few times a month) there is absolutly NO coverage at their house.

I have to keep my old TDMA phone as a backup, which is ridiculous...

I've read several reviews which say this phone is far more fashion than function. My boss has one, and while it looks really cool I think that's where it ends. If I wanted a phone with some real utility I would go Blackberry or Treo.

I did state I like the phone, but I agree on the functionality of the phone, doesn't do anymore than the V551 I had before. But I already have a Palm PDA and wireless laptop, no need for the blackberry. You won't go wrong with one of those either.
