Hard Time Removing Water Stains - Zaino

So, today I was outside from 11am to 8pm prepping my car with a Zaino clay bar using a little bit of Z7 car wash and distilled water. I don't want to doubt the product just yet; Although I spent about an hour on each panel of my 96 Impala,... lets call it user error for now. I can't seem no matter how long or how hard I clay the car to get the acid rain/water stains out of the vehicles paint. In some areas I rubbed until the clear got a little hazy

. I haven't tried any of the other Z's yet, thats tomorrows project for the day, but I thought that the clay bar was supposed to remove all those water spots??? What am I doing wrong and what should I do next? Should I continue on to Meg #83 or even ZPC?

In my opinion, clay typically does nothing to remove water spots unless they are VERY fresh in the paint. It sounds like your water spots have etched the clear coat. To remove them, you will need to use a paint polish and most likely, a machine. Try a few drops of ZPC on a polishing pad with the pc. If that doesn't work, you may try a heavier cut pad, or jump up to #83.

Thanks again for another quick response,... I am finally getting around to this "project" now, and what a project it is!! Anyway,... I don't have any other polishing pads for my rotary than white, but I will give the ZPC a try and then the Meg #83 if that doesn't work... whats the word on distilled vinegar??? I was reading on this site that it removes water old water stains?

Water spots can be a pain sometimes removing. I had 3 emails today from people with Vettes that need water spot removal. I just did an 07 with severe water spot damage. Water and sun are the strongest things combined and acts like a magnify glass eating your paint.

Like Greg said try ZPC first and see what happens.

I have a New Cayman that I took a trip with to FL. The car is midnight blue. I did not have any place to garage the car so every day for a week the car got dew on it and then sat in the sun.

I applied a Zaino wax job on it before I left OH. I noticed several times when i washed the car with the Zaino car wash and then dried it these rings would appear, almost like a haze, and then fade invisible. Are these water spots?

I am in Vegas now and am having a detailer do my car. He is using a non wash cleaning. Do you guys think it is ok to do this over a normal soap and water wash?

The water spots are under the Zaino if they are disapearing like that when dry and only show when wet. A good correction polish will remove them. Sometimes it takes a rotary to remove them 100%.

i recently tackled a massive amount of water spots... my entire car was covered and still have some on the rear window trim... i actually hit it with the 3m fine cut with my PC and that worked great, some spots i needed to hit twice... but it worked really well overall ... now ive never used zaino so i can not comment on that but i can say you will probably need something with a bit of abrasive in it.

etching can be quite difficult to remove if they are deep. Only mild etching can be removed by PC.

I don't think you're doing anything wrong. It's just that water spots is PIA. Sometime claying is not enough. You have to kick up a notch a little bit on those hard water spots.
