Someone sells a product that looks like the white protective film they put on new cars but it leaves a hard to remove residue.
For long trips I've gone to the local car dealership and taken some of that white vinyl, they let me take a ll I want as they trow it away anyway. I cut pieces and apply it to the car. It works great. It should work fine for your purpose also.

I put the Overspray Guard on the areas I want to protect with a sponge. Just wash burnt rubber off. You can buy it in the gallon size if you call them. Works great. PRO Car Beauty Online-BodyShop Products
